Glitch text — often called "Zalgo text" or "cursed text" — is built by stacking Unicode combining marks (the small accents normally used above or below a single letter) on top of ordinary characters. Piling several of them onto every letter makes the text look like it's corrupting or breaking apart. Nothing is actually broken: it's still standard Unicode text, just layered very densely.
Every app renders combining marks slightly differently — some cap how many marks they'll stack per character, some clip or trim excess marks, and older systems may render them inconsistently. Heavy Zalgo text can look spectacular in one app and slightly tamer in another; the "Marks above / through / below" sliders let you dial the intensity down if a platform is cutting it off.

Will glitch text work on Instagram, Discord and TikTok? Yes — these are standard Unicode characters, so they display correctly anywhere that supports Unicode text. Very heavy Zalgo text may get visually trimmed on some platforms.
Why do some upside-down letters look different from the original? Unicode doesn't have a true rotated glyph for every letter, so the closest look-alike character is used. A few letters, like "l" or "o", stay the same.
